Things I wish I had Known at 50.
1. You can accomplish an amazing amount in a decade.
Even if you don’t start saving for your retirement at 50 and you want to retire at 60 it can still work out. The key is to set goals for yourself/family. Think of a strategy that will work for your house hold and have you saving up your money.
2. Life will throw you curves.
By now I think we will all have realized that things don’t always go as planned. You can’t predict the future so always try to be prepared for downfalls.
3. You need less than you think.
Stop all your worrying. I know thinking about retirement can be stressful but it should be exciting. If you have paid-off your home and have no debt and are receiving CPP ( Canadian pension plan) or any kind of old age security then you are doing alright. Also, if you have RRSPs or company pensions between you and your spouse it should be fairly easy to enjoy a decent retirement. That’s a goal most of us can aspire to without huge sacrifices.
