What is an RESP?

A registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) is a registered plan that allows families to contribute towards a child’s education. An individual who is the subscriber to the savings plan makes contributions to the RESP, which earns income. The subscriber has one or more beneficiaries and agrees to make contributions to help finance his or her post-secondary education.

The RESP is used to help finance a course or education program of your choice. The course of study must be at least three consecutive weeks long, with a minimum of 10 hours of instruction or work per week.
